Project
Auckland University B201
Discover the transformative power of redesign, reuse, and recycling in Auckland University's B201 building refurbishment. Once slated for demolition, this 50-year-old structure has been reborn as New Zealand’s highest Green Star-rated building, epitomising world-class, low-carbon design. Thanks to innovative design collaborations, B201 is now poised for another 50 years of academic excellence.
This remarkable refurbishment has achieved 6 Green Stars for Design from the New Zealand Green Building Council by cutting embodied carbon emissions by 50% and reducing energy consumption to one-third of a new building's average.
Academic facilities require exceptional durability and code compliance, extending to every detail of the project. Freedom Works proudly contributed to this project with premium finishes throughout the building. Our stainless-steel tactile indicators (TGSI’s), positioned at the top of the staircase, blend beauty with functionality. Enhanced by architectural lighting, these indicators improve colour contrast, aid way-finding and ensure safety.
We also supplied matching anti-slip stair nosings, seamlessly rebated into the terrazzo stairs. This cost-effective solution prevents water pooling and reduces slip and trip hazards. Together with coordinating stainless-steel finishes, these elements contribute to the building’s sophisticated, high-end architectural aesthetic.
