Project
Marian College, Christchurch
The new college is a bold and inventive architectural response to the destruction of a Catholic girls’ school in Christchurch by the earthquakes. Designed with a groundbreaking approach, the sprawling warehouse-like form transforms the school into an urban village, sheltered beneath a vast canopy roof.
To enhance accessibility and safety throughout the campus, the Freedom Works team installed tactile indicators in key areas, including stairways, ramps, and entrances. These indicators provide essential way finding and hazard warnings, ensuring that all students, staff, and visitors can navigate the space confidently and securely.
Sustainability and environmental focus are central to the design, from repurposing an existing building to incorporating prefabricated timber structures. This innovative learning environment not only pushes architectural boundaries but also priorities safety and accessibility for everyone.
